Disney Tour Discounts

Disney tours are expensive.

The exorbitant price of some of these tours (*cough, cough* Backstage Magic) is one of the main reasons I felt the need to start Disney Tour Reviews.   Why would anyone fork over the price of the tour + a ticket day + park time without knowing what they are getting in return?

I think these tours are expensive, and I only have to pay for one person (unless I’ve badgered some co-reviewers to accompany me.) As of June 2011, a family of 4 would have to pay $954.24 (including tax) to go on Backstage Magic.

This is where discounts come in.  I took 3 people on Backstage Magic and paid $572.55, saving $143.13 off of the list price.  How did I do it?  By booking it with my Disney VISA Card.

If you fall into any of the categories below, you too may be eligible for fabulous savings on select tours!  (How is it that Disney makes me think 15% off constitutes the use of the word “fabulous”?)

Tour Discount Tips:

  • Have your proof of discount eligibility ready before you call to book a tour (i.e., your AP, Disney VISA, etc.)
  • Mention the discount at the beginning of the call.  If you wait until the phone agent is collecting your billing information, they will have to back up and start the transaction again.  You and your agent will both be happier if you mention it from the beginning.
  • Even if a discount isn’t listed for your tour, ask.  Tours change. A lot. Tour discount lists are generally updated once a year.  Just because the AP discount site doesn’t list the tour you want, it doesn’t mean you can’t get the AP discount on any new tour that comes out since the list was last updated.  I got my Disney VISA discount on Walt Disney: Marceline to Magic Kingdom as soon as the tour was offered.
  • Discounts can’t be combined. Use the Discount Category listing below to find the biggest discount you qualify for.   Generally speaking, the Disney VISA discount will be the best deal at 20% off the regular price.
  • Discounts can be applied wherever you book a tour. Disney uses the same tour booking system everywhere, so you can get the same discount if you call ahead or walk up to the Behind the Seeds counter.
  • Discounts can’t be applied retroactively or the day you show up for your tour.
